Back to the physical characteristics of the building, we find that the structural grid on the facade and the spiral like bands of tinted glass which circle the tower give a certain dynamism to the project. But this dynamism is not simply visual, it is performative and it has a direct impact on structural and glazing (illumination/ventilation) considerations.
The structural facade is made out of a ‘diagrid’, which is "a grid of diagonally interlocking elements" (f&p). This interlocking grid provides enough stiffness for the central structural core to act only as a load-bearing element. The floor plates are then free from diagonal bracings, as the central core does not need to provide any lateral structural stability. This function is left for the diagrid to sustain.
