The slick and smooth façade creates beautiful effects as the light moves around its curved surface, so the building is changing colour constantly, however there is something about its simplicity of detail and form which makes it look not pure but plain. Perhaps the Gherkin’s greatest problem is its proximity to the Lloyds building which 22 years on still looks mind blowing.
