The Site "The plan for the new Museum of Contemporary Art, built on the area occupied by the Serralves estate, develops a new core construction, autonomous and independent from those already existing, aimed at fulfilling most of the functions so far provided by the Serralves house. The new building is established on what used to be the vegetable garden and orchard, both of which will be reconstructed in another area of the estate. The factors which determined the choice of this site for the Museum were its proximity to Av. Marechal Gomes da Costa and Rua Dom João de Castro, offering the best means of access to the public, and secondly the fact that it is not a wooded area, thus avoiding the cutting down of trees in the park." >>> |
